The incident happened after school on Monday when the driver of a Hyundai vehicle lost control and ran into the children.

Three others were injured, but two of them were treated and discharged.

The deceased have since been buried.

Road blocks

Angry residents blocked the Egya section of the main Accra-Cape Coast road last Tuesday in apparent protest against speeding vehicles, creating intense traffic.

They said they were disgusted that their several calls for speed breaks had fallen on deaf ears.

The Saltpond Police Command had to come in to disperse the crowd.

Meanwhile, the driver of the 4x4 Hyundai vehicle involved in the accident is helping the police in their investigations.

Police Commander

The Saltpond District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Richardson Kumeko, asked road users to be a little more careful.

He said the stretch was accident-prone, but added that considering the nature of the road, speed rumps may not be the solution.
