The alleged robbers, armed with a single-barreled gun and two pistols, reportedly went to the Sronim Mining Company about 5.30 p.m to demand some gold.

The unidentified robbers were said to have opened fire on the workers when their demands were not met, resulting in the injury of the two workers, one of whom was hit in the right eye.

The victims were identified as Kwabena Boateng, 32, and Naim Nnaji Rahim, 27.

According to the Deputy Eastern Regional Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Stephen Akowuah, while Boateng was shot in the right eye, Rahim sustained gunshot wounds at the back, waist and the chest.

The two were reportedly rushed to the Kyebi Government Hospital but were later referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua for further treatment, he stated.

Mr Akowuah said the alleged armed robbers were said to have fled into the bush after the attack, leaving behind an unregistered motorbike.

The owner of the mining company, Mr Husseini Abdullah, called to inform the police about the incident, the crime officer stated.

Mr Akowuah said the police had mounted an intensive search for the alleged robbers and appealed to the public to give out information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
