The suspect, Kofi Forson, married the deceased, Afia Botwe, 41 years ago and they have eight children.

Forson has been placed in police custody for further investigations to be conducted into the matter, while the mutilated body of Afia Botwe has been deposited at the morgue of  Oda Government Hospital, awaiting autopsy.

Briefing the Daily Graphic at Akroso yesterday, the Oda Municipal Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Issah Mohammed Cantona, said for more than a month now, Afia had been denying Forson sex.

That, he said, resulted in Forson complaining bitterly about the problem to some of his friends.

Mr Cantona said around 8 a.m. last Saturday, July 20, 2013, Afia left for the farm at Akroso and the husband followed up later.

According to Mr Cantona, in the evening of that day, Forson returned home from farm without the wife accompanying him as the couple had been doing normally.

He said in the night, the deceased’s brother visited the couple’s house to enquire about the whereabouts of his sister and he was told by his nephews that their mother had not returned from farm.

Afia BotweAccording to Mr Cantona, when Afia’s brother questioned the brother-in-law about the whereabouts of his sister, he could not give any tangible answer.

Mr Cantona said the deceased’s brother, therefore, reported the matter to the Akroso chief and elders who organised a search for the woman the following day.

He said Forson, who was made to lead the search party, intentionally led members in a different direction to deceive them but the deceased’s brother compelled him to send them to his farm.

Mr Cantona stated that after about 30 minutes, the deceased’s brother became curious when he saw fresh leaves covering something under a tree.

Ultimately, Afia’s mutilated body was found in a pool of blood when the leaves were removed.

Mr Cantona said the search party accordingly arrested Forson and took him to the Akroso Police Station.

He said the police placed Forson in custody after which they accompanied members of the search party to the bush, took photographs of the deceased and conveyed the body to the Oda Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The Municipal Police Commander said the suspect would soon be put before court.
