Rotary Club of Accra-Airport City donates to Unity JHS and others

The Rotary Club of Accra-Airport City has donated stationery materials and Rotary branded nose masks to the final year students of Unity JHS at Kotobabi in the Greater Accra region.

The materials included exercise books, pencils, erasers, mathematical sets, flat files, hand sanitizers, hand washing soap, and drinks.

Similarly, the club also presented Rotary branded nose masks and hand washing soap to the inmates at the Kotobabi Police Station as well as distributing nose masks to some residents in the community who were without nose masks.

The students were also educated on how to wear the nose masks and wash their hands properly, as well as how to observe the COVID-19 safety protocols by some members of the Rotary Club of Accra - Airport City.

Presentation

The President of the Rotary Club of Accra - Airport City, Anita Sobreh, during the presentation of the items on Wednesday, July 22, this year, urged the students to study well to enable them pass their upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

She also admonished the students to observe all the COVID-19 safety protocols when at home and in school.

She said the Rotary Club of Accra - Airport City would continue to assist vulnerable communities, particularly in the areas of education and health.

Madam Sobreh said the provision of educational and health materials to the students as well as the inmates at the Kotobabi Police station and some residents of the community was in line with two of Rotary International's seven areas of focus, namely; Basic education and Literacy and Disease prevention and treatment.

That, she noted, “This year, our theme is Rotary Opens Opportunities, so we hope through these activities to create opportunities for some of the beneficiaries of the work we do and gradually be the change we want to see.”

Madam Sobreh also expressed her gratitude to Danco Impex, Sina Consult, Junara Pro, Lampstand Foundation and the Rotary District 9102 for their various support towards the gesture.

Counselling

In a related development, the Rotary Club of Accra - Airport City on July 24, 2020, held an online career counseling seminar for the students of Unity JHS via zoom.

The counselling session was facilitated by Naana Pokua Biney, an educationist who has a Background in Psychology, Political Science and Finance, and Mr. Sina Kamagate, a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Banker, a Council Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers Ghana, and Risk Department and the Chief Internal Auditor of GCB Bank.
