Prez Akufo-Addo meets Otumfuo behind closed doors
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has met the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II over recent concerns that some government functionaries were working to malign the Asantehene, Graphic Online has gathered.
The closed-door meeting was held at the Manhyia Palace.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II last week expressed concerns that some people in government were attempting to create animosity between him and the Akyem tribe in the Eastern Region.
The Asantehene in a meeting with the acting General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, Ashanti Regional Chairman of NPP, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei Mensah at the Manhyia Palace reportedly mentioned the President’s Secretary, Nana Bediatuo Asante and Mr Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, a former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute and nephew of the President as among persons reportedly working to malign him.
The party officials were at the Palace for Mr Boadu to officially inform the Asantehene about his decision to contest the general secretary position of the party and to seek the King’s blessings. It was during the meeting that the King used the occasion to bare his concerns.
Mr Boadu and his team had to go on their knees to plead for forgiveness from the Asantehene on behalf of the accused.
Explaining, Mr Boadu said they saw from his [Otumfuo’s] speech that something was going on that he was unhappy about and for which he complained.
