Presby provides two communities with clinics

The Presbyterian Health Service ( PHS) has provided two farming communities in the Brong Ahafo Region with clinics to meet the basic health needs of the people.

The beneficiary communities are Tanoboase and Buokrukruwa in the Techiman North and Tano North Districts respectively.

The Buokrukruwa clinic was constructed at GH¢90,000 by the PHS while the building for the Tanoboase health centre was provided by the Chairman of the West Brong Presbytery, Rev. Dr. Kofi  Effa Ababio and renovated by the PHS to suit the purpose.

The two health facilities have been provided with basic health equipment and medical consumables worth GH¢40,000 by the Brong Ahafo PHS to serve the people in the two communities.

The Buokrukruwa clinic is a fulfilment of a request made by the Omanhene of the Duayaw Nkwanta Traditional Area, Nana Boakye Tromo III, to the immediate past Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Very Rev. Yaw Frimpong Manso, during his visit to the area about four years ago.

With the inauguration of the two health facilities, the PCG now runs a total of 48 health institutions across the country with substantial portion located in the  rural areas with a workforce of 1,977.

Speaking at separate ceremonies held at Tanoboase and Buokrukruwa  to inaugurate the clinics over the weekend, Mr Sam Sarpong Appiah, National Co-ordinator of the PHS, said the provision of the health centres was in line with the church's vision to provide holistic, affordable and quality healthcare in the society, especially in rural and deprived areas of the country.

He said the PCG was currently the third largest single provider of health services in the country and pledged that the church would continue to partner the government to  provide quality healthcare in the country.

Mr Appiah, however, bemoaned the unhealthy rivalry between staff of the PHS, the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service, which he said undermined the smooth delivery of health services to the people and expressed the hope that each would appreciate the contribution of the other in their areas of operation.

He expressed the appreciation of the PHS to the government for  its support over the years, especially in the areas of the payment of staff salaries and granting of tax exemptions for imports meant for delivery of health services in the country.

Rev. Kwadwo Owusu Sarpong, Chairman of the Brong Ahafo Presbytery,  urged the beneficiary communities to take good care of the facilities in order to extend its lifespan and also co-operate with the health personnel working in the area to enjoy their stay and serve them better.

Mr Fred Effah-Yeboah, General Manager of the Brong Ahafo PHS, called for co-operation from the people in the beneficiary communities to help the PHS run the facilities effectively to their benefit.
