The culprit, Lance Corporal Gabriel Kofi Tettey, who was on duty at the Madina Zongo Junction to keep peace, is said to have unleashed unprovoked attacks on civilians by chasing and whipping them for unknown reasons.

And when he was summoned before the Madina Police Command yesterday, Lance Cpl Tettey could not tell what had kept him in the Madina police cells overnight.

The Madina Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr Boadu Peprah, told the Daily Graphic that he was informed of the suspect’s arrest and detention yesterday morning.

He said when Lance Cpl Tettey was interrogated, it could be deduced that he was possibly drunk at the time of his arrest.

That, he said, was because the suspect did not know what had caused his detention.

The Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, Mr Paul Awini, told the Daily Graphic that he ordered the arrest and detention of the suspect when he received a call that Lance Cpl Tettey was attacking civilians around Madina Zongo Junction on Thursday night.

He said a police patrol team was subsequently despatched to the scene to effect his arrest.
