Police hold 3rd-year Ghana National College student for alleged rape

A third-year student of the Ghana National College in Cape Coast alleged to have raped a first-year student is in the grip of the police.

The 21-year-old Frederick Ayisi is currently being held at the Bakaano Police Station in Cape Coast.

He is said to have lured the 16-year-old first-year student of the same school to a secluded corner of the school and raped her, reports Graphic Online’s reporter in Cape Coast, Shirley Asiedu Addo.

The incident is said to have happened about two weeks ago and reported to the school authorities but according to the police, they received the complaint just last Tuesday [February 25, 2020].

The school authorities reported the incident to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the police at Cape Coast after their preliminary investigations.

Ayisi was presented to court on Wednesday, February 26 and Thursday, February 27 but the court did not sit because the judge had a sitting in another jurisdiction outside of Cape Coast.

The Central Regional Coordinator of DOVVSU, Superintendent George Appiah Sakyi told Graphic Online that Ayisi was picked the same day on Tuesday when the matter was reported to the police.

"We have visited the [crime] scene and done some investigations,” he stated.

Superintendent Appiah Sakyi said the case would be put before the court again on Friday, February 28 while the police prepare a docket for the advice of the Attorney General.

“It’s a provisional charge. His charge would depend on the advice from the Attorney General’s office,” he added.
