Payroll printing site launched in Tamale

A payroll printing site to print pay reports of government employees in the three northern regions has been launched in Tamale by the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD).

The launch of the Tamale printing site is the third in a series of similar sites which have been launched in other parts of the country following an earlier launch of the Ho printing site to cater for the Volta and Eastern regions and the Sekondi site to take care of payroll reports for the Western and Central regions.

Other printing sites yet to be launched are the Kumasi printing site to address concerns of government employees in Ashanti and the Brong Ahafo regions.

Prior to the launch of these sites, payroll reports over the years were printed in Accra and sent to public sector workers throughout the country with its attendant delays and other inconveniences.

Addressing the gathering during the launch, the acting Controller and Accountant General, Madam Grace Francisca Adzoe, said apart from the printing site, the department had also set up a client service unit to address challenges faced by employees and pensioners.

She said the decentralisation of the payroll reports printing was expected to ensure the elimination in the delays in printing and delivery of payroll reports as well as helping heads of government institutions to receive payroll reports on time and take action on any anomalies.

“Mr Chairman, the printing of the payroll reports will be limited to payment vouchers and pay slips as well as granting access to authorised representatives of MDAs/MMDAs to do deletions of separated staff on the payroll”, she stated.

She added that other management reports required by heads of MDAs/MMDAs would be made accessible through the same printing sites in due course.

Madam Adzoe said apart from decentralising the printing of payroll reports, the CAGD had also initiated programmes to improve payroll delivery.

She mentioned some of the initiated programmes as E-pay slips which enable employees to view their pay slips on their mobile phone or any computer with internet connectivity and E-payment vouchers which is an electronic transmission of payment vouchers through computers with internet connectivity to heads of department for review and approval before payment.

The Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, said the siting of the payroll printing site in Tamale should be a source of great joy to public sector workers and pensioners within its surrounding area.

He said public sector workers and pensioners had to always travel to Accra to process issues relating to their emoluments and asked personnel of CAGD who would be assigned to the centre to ensure that they gave their best for people to access their services.
