‘Nurture festival to attract more tourists’

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong, has tasked the chiefs and people of the Awutu Traditional area to nurture the Awubia Festival to attract more tourists to the area.
The annual Awubia festival is celebrated by the chiefs and people of the Awutu Traditional Area to signify grain harvest.

Mr Sarpong reminded the chiefs and people of the significance of festivals and their role in the socio-economic development and the promotion of tourism in the country.

According to the Regional Minister, the Awubia festival is one of the distinctive festivals celebrated in the Central Region, which attracts people from all walks of life to the area, and congratulated the chiefs and the people of the traditional area on their commitment to preserve the cultural heritage bequeathed to them by their ancestors.

He reminded the chiefs and people of the role of tourism in the dissemination of investment opportunities and said many communities had recorded investment inflows through festivals.

Mr Sarpong asked them to use the occasion as a period to take stock of their socio-economic development and reflect on the past achievements and failures to help them to make strong resolutions to improve upon their achievements.

Touching on the theme “Peaceful co-existence for accelerated development,” Mr Sarpong advised the people to eschew all kinds of negative practices that had the potential to disturb the peace in order to sustain socio-economic development of the community.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ms Hannah Serwah Tetteh, who is also the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, advised the people to avoid land disputes in order to attract investment to the area due to its strategic location and proximity to the national capital.

The Awutu Omanhen, Nai Aboukuade Agyemang Whettey Otabil , called on the government to rehabilitate roads in the area to facilitate economic activities there.
