No more requests for change of postings on health grounds — NSS

Requests from service persons for change of postings on health grounds will no longer be considered, the National Service Scheme (NSS) has said.

According to a statement signed by the Acting Executive Director of the scheme, Dr Michael Kpessa-Whyte, the management of the scheme was overwhelmed by the seeming abuse of requests for change of postings based on one health condition or another.

It said even though such service persons did not indicate on their enrolment forms prior to the postings that they had such health conditions, it had become a norm for them to request their postings to be changed on health grounds.

Defer postings

According to the statement, it had been observed that it was only after postings had been released that some service persons, in their bid to refuse postings, would begin obtaining letters from medical facilities on claims of one type of sickness or another.

It emphasised that service persons who had health challenges which might hamper their ability to do the service this year had the right and would be encouraged to defer their national service to next year in order to properly take care of their health conditions.

The statement reiterated that registration would close on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 and urged all service personnel who had been deployed to go through the process of registration and get themselves ready to begin their service from Tuesday, September 1, 2015.
