Fake lawyer arrested in court

A young man who went to court to defend a client in a civil suit has found himself on the wrong side of the law.

While representing his client in a civil suit at the Koforidua Circuit Court 'A' last Friday, the young man, known as Emmanuel Marfo, who had claimed to be a lawyer, was found to be fake.

Briefing the Daily Graphic in Koforidua yesterday, the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr Ebenezer Tetteh, said the fake lawyer would be arraigned today.

According to DSP Tetteh, the suspect presented himself to the court, presided over by Ms Evelyn Asamoah, as a member of the bar to represent a client.

"During the court sitting, the suspect’s conduct became suspicious to the judge, who further interrogated him because of his inability to understand legal jargons and court proceedings.

“The suspect then admitted that he was not a lawyer, for which reason the judge called for his arrest,” he said.

To worsen matters, DSP Tetteh said, a man who was engaged by the fake lawyer to bail him was also found to be an imposter.

The police could not give the name and further particulars of the man who had come to bail the fake lawyer.
