Join GUTA to fight for rights - Traders advised

Traders in the country have been called upon to join the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) for a common stand to build a strong, unified and vibrant body to fight for their rights.

The National President of GUTA, Barima Dr Ofori Ameyaw I, who made the call stressed that traders’ involvement in the association could enable them to protect and safeguard their businesses.

Barima Dr Ameyaw was speaking in Kumasi at an executives meeting organised by the Ashanti Region branch of GUTA at the Kumasi Club in Kumasi.

Benefits

He noted that by coming together could help them to negotiate with the government and, therefore, urged the executive to come up with pragmatic and meaningful innovative strategies to enable many traders to realise the need to join the association.

He added that negotiating with the government as individuals could only yield little dividends.

Dr Ameyaw who is also the Kwahufour Tufuhene said the national executive members were always making efforts to put the government on its toes to ensure a better deal for the traders.

He said last year,  members of GUTA  organised a demonstration against foreigners who  had taken over the retail market and were dictating prices of goods to suit themselves,   the 17.5  per cent vat tax  as well  as the one percent special tax.
