I want Akufo-Addo to succeed - Kabila

A member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh, a.k.a Kabila, says he wants President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to succeed as President of Ghana.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo’s failure will be an indictment on the political class of which he is a member.

He added that he does not hate the president as is being suggested by a section of the public. "People say I hate Nana, Nana Addo is my friend, I love him and I want him to succeed. My prayer is for Nana Addo to lead Ghana to develop", he said on Accra based radio, Peace FM on Monday in reaction to media reports that he has kicked against the construction of a National Cathedral by the government.

He stressed that he is not against the building of such a project, but the government has no business participating in such a venture.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the construction of the National Cathedral on March 6, 2017 as part of events that marked Ghana’s 60th anniversary celebration.

Funding for the project is to be sourced from individuals within the Christian community but the government offered land to the Christian community to put up the 5,000-seating capacity cathedral.

The move, according to Mr Bomfeh, was uncalled for.

He explained that Ghana as a secular state must not be seen to be getting involved in religious activities such as building a Christian Cathedral and facilitating Muslims’ pilgrimage to Mecca.

He has filed a suit at the Supreme Court to restrain the government from taking any steps to partake in the building of the proposed National Cathedral.

Mr Bomfeh had early on in March 2017, filed a similar suit at the Supreme Court to challenge the decision to build the Cathedral.
