Herbalife Family Foundation commits to helping vulnerable children

Herbalife Family Foundation (HFF), a non-profit organisation committed to helping vulnerable children, was established in 1994 and is committed to improving the lives of children around the world by supporting charitable organisations that provide one of life’s most basic necessities - good nutrition.

HFF introduced the Casa Herbalife Programme in 2005 to help provide healthy and nutritious meals by partnering existing charities serving children.

Today, HFF supports over 130 Casa Herbalife programmes in more than 50 countries and serves over 100,000 children on a daily basis. HFF is supported by independent herbalife members, their friends and families and Herbalife employees.

The HFF Casa Herbalife Programme provides millions of dollars in funding and volunteer assistance each year to more than 130 organisations worldwide.

These funds bring nutrition to more than 100,000 children in over 50 countries on a daily basis.

It is in pursuit of this objective that HFF has announced the opening of its first Casa Herbalife programme in Ghana, being undertaken in partnership with the SOS Children’s Village in Tema.

Under the partnership, HFF is providing $10,000 (GH¢43,700) annually as grant to support the nutritional needs of children cared for by SOS Children’s villages.

To celebrate the launch of this new Casa Herbalife, 12 independent Herbalife Nutrition members from the various cities of the country visited the SOS Children’s Villages in Tema and hosted a nutrition day.

At an event to launch the Casa Herbalife programme in Tema, a team member of Herbalife Nutrition, Mr Evans Obour ,said the programme was part of an initiative to support the needy in society.

“It was a privilege to be here today to see how our funding and volunteerism can assist these children in getting good nutrition which helps them in their development,” he said.

“On behalf of all the Herbalife Nutrition members and staff who have raised funds to make this donation possible, I wish to welcome the SOS Children’s Village in Tema into our Casa Herbalife Family,” he said.

In a relaxed and fun environment, Herbalife Nutrition members interacted with the children and showed them the value of good nutrition and how to lead healthy and active lifestyles.

In addition to improving the lives of children by helping charitable organisations provide healthy nutrition to children in need, HFF often supports relief efforts in response to catastrophic disasters around the world.

 Creating better environment

The Village Director at the SOS Children’s Villages Ghana, Mr Isaac Kojo Ackon, stated that the grant provided by HFF would help to create a better environment by supporting the renovation of the family kitchens and tools to support the development of the children in its Tema Village.

He explained that the organisation relied heavily on the generosity of the public to continue its operations in serving unprivileged children within its umbrella.

Established in 1974, he said the SOS Children’s Villages Ghana supported orphans and other vulnerable children who have been abandoned or at risk of being abandoned.

“It provides a loving home to children who are given quality care by SOS parents in individual family homes in its four villages in the country and also runs various projects under its Family Strengthening programme.

‘’The aim of the SOS Children's Villages in Ghana is to ensure that every child belongs to a family and was nurtured with love, respect and security,” he said.
