Girl, 13 butchered to death

Fear and apprehension gripped the Kpando Municipality in the Volta Region on Thursday, when a suspected mentally deranged man butchered a Class Five pupil of the Abanu M/A Primary School.
Confirming the incident to journalists in Ho, the Volta Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr George Tuffour, said the deceased, Rejoice Dornudenu, 13, was weeding the school park on when the suspected mentally retarded man whose name was given as Wisdom Akude, 27, attacked her with a machete and inflicted deep wounds on various parts of her body.

He said the deceased was rushed to the Margaret Marquart Catholic Hospital at Kpando but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue.
The police commander said Wisdom, who is currently in custody, is helping the police with further investigations.
