UDS alumni refurbish facilities, present vehicles to university

The alumni association of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has handed over 10 refurbished projects and two new Nissan pick-up vehicles acquired by the association to the Nyankpala Campus of the university in the Northern Region.

The facilities, which were refurbished at a cost of GH¢100,000, included laboratory and classroom blocks, offices, washrooms and an edifice at the main entrance to the campus.

Apart from giving a facelift to the university, the facilities are also intended to help improve on academic performance.

Presentation

The National President of the association, Prof. Felix Abagale, who made the presentation at Nyankpala last Friday, said the gesture was part of efforts by the association to improve on infrastructure on the various campuses of the university in Tamale, Navrongo (Upper East) and Wa (Upper West) to promote effective teaching and learning.

“As alumni, we believe that the university and the government alone cannot provide the needed infrastructure, hence the need for us to support. Our next plan is to focus on the Wa and the Tamale campuses of the university," he stated.

Prof. Abagale appealed to the government to speed up the process of tarring roads in the university and also complete all stalled projects on the various campuses of the UDS.

He pledged the association’s commitment to further collaborate with the university to initiate more projects to transform the UDS and make it a centre of excellence.

Commendation

The Principal of the Nyankpala Campus, Prof. George Nyarko, commended the alumni for the support which, he said, was encouraging and exemplary.

“Anybody who comes here will appreciate the work of the alumni. We thank you and hope that the collaboration between the university and the alumni will grow from strength to strength for the betterment of the UDS,” he added.
