Ghana to become headquarters of Chinese computer company

China’s leading Internet Company, Inspur Group Co. Ltd, has decided to establish its West African headquarters in Ghana.

The company’s decision was born out of the country’s peaceful and stable nature, coupled with an impressive economic outlook, which saw Ghana’s economy grow at 8.5 per cent in 2017, from 3.6 per cent in 2016.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Inspur Group, Mr Peter Sun, made this known when he paid a courtesy call on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on the sidelines of the Ghana-Shangdong Business Conference in Jinan, Shangdong Province.

President Akufo-Addo was in China on a state visit as part of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, a triennial meeting between senior Chinese leaders and their counterparts from across Africa.

Inspur, which is also the number two company in China’s Information Technology industry, currently has a 57 per cent share of global sales in the Artificial Intelligence server field and is the fastest growing server vendor in the world. It also holds the biggest market share in the sale of servers in China.

Training

Mr Sun said in addition to establishing its regional headquarters in Ghana, 10 Ghanaian students would be offered the opportunity to do internship with the company, for them to be trained to take up jobs in the company’s operations in Ghana and West Africa.

He added that the company would each year invite 30 officials from the ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in Ghana to China to be trained in the fields of cloud computing and data technology.

Mr Sun expressed the company’s readiness to assist Ghana in the fields of revenue mobilisation and green development, “a real estate development concept that carefully considers social and environmental impacts of development.”

President Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo in response, described Inspur’s decision to establish its West African headquarters in Ghana as excellent because Ghana, he said, was a stable country and its economy was picking up very rapidly, as well as a good base to connect to the rest of West Africa.

President Akufo-Addo assured the company of the safety of its investment in Ghana, stressing that “we encourage foreign investments in our country. So, as a base for doing business in West Africa, Ghana is ideal, and it will be a win-win situation for us all.”
