Ghana Post Company trains GNFS staff on Ghana Post GPS App
As part of efforts to assist the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to easily identify locations of fire incidents for a quick response, the Ghana Post Company, operators of the Ghana Post GPS App, has trained some fire personnel on the use of the Ghana Post GPS App.
The one-day training programme, held at the head office of the GNFS, was aimed at deepening the understanding of the fire service personnel on how the Ghana Post GPS App works and how to use it effectively and efficiently.
Ghana Post GPS is a ‘home-grown’ location-based system which provides the most effective means of addressing every location.

Designed by Vokacom, a Ghanaian information technology firm, with the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), the Ghana Post GPS App was launched on October 18, 2017 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to provide accurate data for planning and service delivery for service providers and ultimately, make it easy to identify and find locations, as well as boost emergency service delivery.
The Head of Sales of the Ghana Post Company, Mr Jude Owusu Sekyere, said the purpose of the training was to enlighten the officers of the fire service on the importance of the digital address system and how it will serve the service to make their work feasible in terms of locating an area or residence during a fire outbreak or emergency.

He explained that the App would enable the firefighters to easily identify areas of fire outbreaks in order to deploy firefighters to such locations to protect lives and property.
The Corporate Communications Manager of Ghana Post Company, Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan-Bekoe, said often times when there is fire incident, fire personnel found it difficult to locate such places due to wrong directions given them by the victims.
That, she added, with the training on the use of the Ghana Post GPS App, it would enable the fire officers to easily locate exact buildings and places that have been hit by fires or disasters.
She, therefore, encouraged the participants and all Ghanaians to download the app to enable them to give right directions to emergency services in times of need for a quick assistance.
The programme was attended by both senior and junior officers of the service, including the Acting Chief Fire Officer, Mr Edwin Ekow Blankson and his two deputies.
