Under the project, one million waste bins will be distributed to households and individuals across the country.

The Programme Coordinator for the project, Mr Lawrence Laryea, made this known on the sidelines of a one-day training session for assembly members in the Ayawaso North Municipality on Thursday.

According to Mr Laryea, Zoomlion secured a loan facility of USD10m at Ecobank to facilitate the project as part of its commitment to help achieve President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision of making Ghana the cleanest country in the sub-region.

He further stated that the company will collaborate with the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to ensure that all households benefit from the programme.

This, he noted, will help improve the sanitation situation in the country.

Areas of distribution
Mr Laryea said apart from the MMDAs, Public health departments, sub-metros, town and zonal councils will also serve as an intermediate point of contact with the community.

He added that National Service personnel and people under the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) programme among others, will serve as the main implementers of the project.

He explained that they will be responsible for data collection, monitoring, reporting and enforcement of the project.

Payment
Mr Laryea further stated that beneficiaries of the projects will pay an agreed monthly fee for servicing of the bins.

He added that the payment of the project will be done in collaboration with Ecobank to promote electronic payment platforms.

He also encouraged clients to ensure records of all payments are kept for future references.

Benefits of the project
Touching on some benefits of the project, he said it would improve waste management services in the country since the bins will be tracked to prevent people from puting them to other uses.

In addition, he said 10,000 jobs will be created within the districts under the programme.

He further noted that the introduction of the project will also prevent sanitation-related diseases in the country.

Zoomlion Lauded
On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly, Mr Mohammed Zakari Aminu lauded Zoomlion for the initiative.

According to him, efforts are being put in place to ensure that his assembly becomes one of the cleanest municipalities in the country.

He said the partnership with Zoomlion will therefore go a long way to help the assembly to achieve its goal and added that he will ensure that the bye-laws of the assembly are adhered to by bringing culprits to book.
