Use pulpit to highlight sanitation problems — pastors urged

The Chairperson of the Ga West Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Reverend Daniel Nyarko, has expressed concern about the worsening insanitary conditions in the country and called on pastors to use the pulpit to educate their congregants to join efforts to ensure a clean environment.

“Let us rise up as people of God and while praying and observing our Christian activities, we should not forget that God entrusted the earth to mankind to take good care of it and not to destroy it,” he stated.

Rev. Nyarko said the volume of garbage that had filled gutters in the various cities, towns and villages across the country, coupled with the foul stench that came out of them, posed a serious health threat to the country and, therefore, called on religious leaders to join the crusade to ensure environmental cleanliness.

He was delivering the sermon at the Ebenezer Congregation of the PCG in Sunyani during the ordination of 15 ministerial probationers.

Nurture members

Rev. Nyarko challenged the newly ordained ministers to nurture the members of their respective congregations, win new souls and put in efforts to manage God’s creation.

He further advised them to continue to study the Bible and be prayerful in order to be successful in their sacred vocation.

A representative of the newly ordained ministers, Rev. Ramos Twi-Antwi, pledged that they would not disappoint the church in the areas of practical evangelism, discipleship and in both the qualitative and quantitative growth of the church.

He observed that notwithstanding the large number of Christians in the country, bribery and corruption, armed robbery, prostitution and other social vices were on the ascendency.

 Rev. Twi-Antwi also said the practice where some members of the church jumped from one prayer camp to the other and paid huge sums of money in search of direction from such men of God should stop and pledged that they would mobilise the congregants through prayers and sound teachings to reduce such incidences.

He appealed to the leadership of the PCG to encourage its agents to adopt the radio ministry as an evangelistic strategy to proclaim the gospel.

Ordination Vows

Leading the ministerial probationers to take their vows, the Moderator of the church, Rt Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, who performed the ordination, charged them to work within the tenets and rules governing the PCG as contained in their vows.

He led the congregation to pray for the newly ordained ministers and charged them not to be complacent but continue to study the Bible and be prayerful in order to overcome challenges that would come their way.
