Tegbi youth club urges ECG MD to ensure reliable power supply

The Tegbi Youth Club of Anlo in the Volta Region has charged the new Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Julius Kwame Kpekpena, to lead a transformational agenda that will ensure reliable electricity supply across the country.

In a congratulatory statement filled with high expectations, the group urged Mr Kpekpena to “deliver, improve and lift the company from its shackles” to guarantee uninterrupted power supply and illuminate “every corner of Ghana 24/7.”

They, therefore, called on him to embody humility, tolerance, hard work and a commitment to serve the public good as he assumes his new role, emphasising that his leadership would be crucial in addressing the persistent power challenges faced by many.

Challenges

The ECG has been grappling with interrupted power supply due to a combination of financial, technical and operational challenges.

One major issue is the company’s alleged mismanagement and high debt levels, with significant arrears owed by government institutions and private consumers, limiting its ability to purchase enough power from suppliers. 

Additionally, ECG has struggled with outdated infrastructure, leading to frequent breakdowns and inefficiencies in power distribution.

A new leadership, therefore, signifies a fresh opportunity to address long-standing challenges such as financial mismanagement, inefficiencies in power distribution and the persistent issue of unreliable electricity supply.

It represents hope for strategic reforms, improved operational efficiency and enhanced service delivery to both households and businesses.

The club, therefore, expressed their profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for appointing and trusting Mr Kpekpeka with the mandate of ensuring the nation’s electricity distribution and related services were done effectively and efficiently.

Your commitment to service is second to none,” it read.
