He said although bedevilled with some minor challenges, the policy had increased enrolment in senior high schools in the country and given opportunities to all students to access quality education.
He further mentioned that since the government may not be able to meet the growing demands from the citizenry, chiefs and opinion leaders ought to join forces with the government to ensure that the needed social amenities, including stable energy, good roads, potable water, shelter and the right environment were made available for investors to create job opportunities for the people.
Nene Dr Korabo made this known on the sidelines of a meeting to commence the week-long activities marking the 26th anniversary of Nene Dr Teidjahene Korabo as the Chief of Manya Jorpanya and his elevation as the Senior Asafoatse of the Shai State.
Ngmayem Festival
Ngmayem festival is celebrated by the chiefs and people of Manya Jorpanya to mark the end of the famine that their forebears experienced in the past.
It is also to pray for a bumper harvest in the ensuing year. During the period, millet is sprinkled to indicate the actual end of the year-long famine.
This year’s festival is expected to witness a diversity of culture, exchange of ideas from all religious and traditional????, customs and traditions coupled with an interesting rendition of historical antecedents.
Education
Nene Dr Korabo said he had established the Manya Kitipon Educational Fund which had for the past years provided support to brilliant, needy students in the area to further their education after completing their secondary education.
He, therefore, appealed to investors and the government to support the initiative to unearth the hidden potential in the youth to help boost the economy which would in turn support the government’s agenda of reducing unemployment.
Development
Nene Dr Korabo touted his accomplishments, stating that since his ascension to the throne, the area had witnessed tremendous development.
He said with the help of investors, he had created job opportunities for the youth in the town and surrounding communities most of whom were primarily dependent on agriculture.
Other developmental projects he noted were improved access to electricity across the town, access to potable water, construction of seven homes for the clans in the town, a palace, provision of a police post, construction of a primary and junior high school, a funeral home, a financial space for business and provision of a health facility.
He, however, appealed to the government through the Ministry of Roads and Highways to assist in the completion of a 2-kilometre road from the town to join the Akosombo-Afienya main road which would reduce the long distance in conveying goods from the villages to Accra, Tema and Ashaiman.
