Royal House organises party for kayayei
The Royal House Chapel International last week Wednesay organised an end-of-year party for more than 900 head porters, popularly called 'kayayei' and some street children in Accra.
The ‘kayayei’ were drawn from the Kantamanto, Malata, CMB, Railway, Ablogboshie and Kaneshie markets. They were served with rice, drinks and pastries.

The church also presented gifts and mobile phones to the aged and orphans during the christmas holidays.
Premiere lady
The wife of the Apostle General of the Royal House Chapel International, Rev. Mrs Rita Korankye Ankra, said the church, through its compassion ministry, had the vision to support the needy in the society.
She said the compassion ministry was established years ago and had contributed to the welfare of prisoners who now were serving as members of the church and were also receiving tuition in various tertiary institutions.
Mrs Korankye Ankrah added that the church was concerned not only with people’s spirituality but also of their welfare, particularly those rejected by society.
According to her, Christmas was all about showing love and compassion to one another which was why the church had come out to fete kayayei and street children.
Christmas
“Christmas is all about love and as the Bible explains, God gave His only begotten son to die for the world and as church we are practising what the Bible says,” she said.
The church also organised a health screening exercise on the occasion where participants were presented with various medications for their illnesses.
Mrs Korankye Ankrah said, “the Kayayei work so harder but hardly visit the hospital for check ups and that is why we have hired pediatricians and doctors to screen them and support them with medications”.
“I am urging churches to come together and take young people and children off the streets and Ghana would become a peaceful place,” she said.
According to her, if every church or organisation took a child from the street, social vices including armed robbery would be curtailed.
Elderly
Actress Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono, urged Ghanaians to begin the new year with love and care for the needy, particularly the elderly.
She called for society to work whole-heartedly in caring for the needs of the elderly. She said the elderly must be fed the right amounts of nutrients to improve their health condition.
Mrs Korankye Ankrah said old age was associated with several infirmities and as such asked the elderly to seek medical attention to keep their bodies functioning at optimum.
She further appealed to society to discard the notion that the aged were witches and wizards but rather take good care of them.
