Prevent economy from further challenges

The Global Evangelical Church (GEC) has called on the government to take urgent measures to salvage the economy from further deterioration.

In a communique issued by the church, after a day’s mini Synod in Accra last Friday, it said: “The Synod recognises the continuous deterioration of the Ghanaian economy and, therefore, urges the government to take urgent measures to salvage it”.

It reiterated its call on the President to assent to the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill which had been passed by Parliament.

“This will help not only preserve the religious, cultural and social well-being and values of Ghanaians, but also prevent the many health implications associated with LGBTQQIA++ practice,” the church said.

The delegates deliberated on various issues affecting the church, the Christian community and the nation at large.

The Synod, which was on the theme: “Preach the word”, extracted from 2 Timothy 4: 1,2, further called on the citizenry, especially the Christian community, to continue to preach and hold on to the unadulterated word of God as contained in the Holy Bible and seek to obey it.

Peaceful elections

The church also entreated stakeholders in the media to guard against unprofessional conduct which could create a volatile atmosphere in the country.

The Synod reminded the nation of the importance of maintaining the peace before, during and after this year’s December 7, elections. “The Synod, therefore, appeals to the government, the Electoral Commission, the various political parties, the media, security agencies and other stakeholders to play their respective roles effectively in a transparent, free and fair manner,” it added.

Admonition

The Moderator of GEC, Rt Rev. Prosper Samuel Dzomeku, who opened the mini Synod, admonished Christians in the country to distinguish themselves as ambassadors of Christ and be valuable to society.

He said the GEC was passionate about raising young leaders who would contribute positively to the development of the country.

The Moderator said the role of the church in society was very crucial, for which it must be very intentional about the messages preached to members to help shape their lifestyles as demonstrated by Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity.

The event was graced by the President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council who doubles as the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye; the Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Rt Rev. Dr Lieutenant Colonel Bliss Divine Agbeko; some functionaries of the church, including current and former Synod Committee Executives and Presbytery Chairmen, among others.

The synod is an annual meeting of the leadership of GEC, including pastors and lay ministers to take stock of the previous year’s activities and also discuss issues pertaining to the church for the following year.
