Uber driver assault suspects not police officers - Police Service

The Police administration says the three security officers involved in the assault of an Uber driver last Saturday are not Police Officers but Community Police Assistants.

According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Police Service, the driver of the blue Suzuki Alto who was assaulted around the Pentecost University lodged a formal complaint at the Sowutuom Police Station.

It said investigations into the matter revealed that the officers in the video which went viral on social media were not Police Officers.

“The attention of the Ghana Police Service has been drawn to a video circulating on social media about a “Police Officer” in a tussle with a civilian Uber driver around Pentecost University, near Sowutuom last Saturday.”

“So far, investigation revealed that the said Officers have been identified as Community Police Assistant, (CPA) and not Police Officers. They are however, assisting investigation,” the statement said.

It further assured that the Police Service would continue to carry out its mandate with international best standards by respecting the human rights of all.
