PDS explains power debt in Krobo land

The General Manager of the Power Distribution Services (PDS), Tema Region, Mr Joseph Forson, has denied claims that they have waived Gh¢111 million owed them by some consumers in Kroboland in the Eastern Region.

Instead, he explained that the said amount was money realized after its reconciliation of estimated and actual bills which were served to the people between May 2017 and December 2018.

Speaking in an interview with Graphic Online, Mr Forson explained that the people in that part of the region refused to allow officials of the then Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) access into their property to read the actual bills so the system generated an estimated bill for them.

“When the system generates a bill, it can be either high or low. In their case, we realised there was over-billing after they eventually allowed us to read their meters so that was the money we announced," he stated.

He said the people were billed about Gh¢195 million but after the reading of the meters it came out that they owed about Gh¢85 million.

He said total debt owed PDS in that area was about Gh¢85 million as of December 2018 but because the people have refused to pay it has increased to about Gh¢94 million.
