NUGS congratulates farmers
The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has called on all stakeholders in the agriculture sector to move beyond talks and put their words into action to improve the lot of farmers in the country.
It said per their contributions to the growth of the country, farmers “do not deserve to wallow in poverty.”
In a statement signed and issued by the National President of the union, Mr Richmond Asare Tinkaro, on the occasion of the National Farmers’ Day, the union further called on the government to “renew their commitments in helping to improve the conditions of farmers in the country and the majority of people especially the youth at the agriculture sector.”
The union commended the farmers for their hard work in making agriculture sector a buoyant sector that fed other sectors.
“The future holds more promises and more potential for Ghana in each passing day because our farmers have positioned Ghana globally, as a country among the world's best producers of cocoa. The advances you're making in the field of agriculture and the support from government could lead to the breakthrough we need, and to maintain Ghana’s agriculture production in the years to come, adding more value to our produce in the world market,” it said.
The statement said their work has not only improved the lives of people in Ghana but has also offered many people the opportunity to be in school, and to make meaningful lives through the decent money they earned and the use of it to support the education of their wards, adding, “ Ghana students say ‘Ayekoo’ ".
