Mission Possible provides free health screen to residents of Juabeng

A California-based foundation, Mission Possible has organised a health screening exercise for residents of Juabeng in the Ashanti Region.

The residents who thronged the chief's palace where the exercise took place to access the free health care were diagnosed, treated and supplied with medicines while those who needed further treatment were referred to major hospitals with financial support from the group to be channeled through local partner.

Some of the common diseases diagnosed were diabetes, low and high blood pressure and sight problems.

The team

The team made up 21 missionaries from California, Jamaica, Florida, Las Vegas and Maryland seized the opportunity to demystify myths surrounding some of the diseases and rolled such patients onto sustainable drugs.

The Director of the foundation, Mrs Beverley Thompson, said the screening was in response to a call made by the president of Ghana National Chamber of Commerce, Nana Appiagyei Dankawoso, who also doubles as the linguist for the Chief of Juaben, Nana Otuo Siriboe II to assist the community with health service.

Mrs Thomson said the visit was in line with the foundation's aim of giving back to the less-privileged in the society who could not get access to affordable healthcare.

"Health issues must always be taking seriously in promoting a healthy country. For a country to develop and grow, the people in it must be strong and healthy," she said.

The director of the group encouraged the people to visit the hospital frequently in order to known their health status to find possible solution to it.
“With such an attitude diseases such as diabetes and pressure which are currently killing people rapidly can be controlled at the early stages when detected," she advised.

Glasses and Condoms

Mrs Thompson announced that the foundation has made available 2,000 reading glasses to be distributed to people suffering from eye problems in the community. "The eye is a very important part of the human body, therefore, we need to take care of it well," she said.

Also as part of the measures to prevent sexually transmitted diseases in the community, the foundation distributed free condoms to everybody.

Appreciation

Nana Appiagyei Dankawoso expressed appreciation to the team and hoped the relationship would be sustained.

He said his desires to see a healthyJuabeng community was his way of giving back to a community where he was raised.
