KATH pilots paperless system
The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has rolled out a pilot paperless system using the Lightwave Health Information Management System (LHIMS) technology to improve efficiency, avoid wastage and save cost.
The system which has taken off at the Family Medicine, Oncology and Ear, Nose and Throat Directorate is expected to cover all units and departments in the course of the year.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KATH, Dr Oheneba Owusu-Danso, made this known at the staff awards and thanksgiving ceremony at the hospital.
Paperless
Dr Owusu-Danso said barring any unforeseen circumstances, it was expected that all services throughout the hospital would go electronic by June.
He announced the arrival of a new GH¢5.4 million oxygen plant at the Tema Port to replace the over two-decades-old obsolete plant.
Endowment Fund
The CEO appealed to the public to contribute to the recently launched KATH Endowment Fund to retool and rehabilitate the hospital, which would cost about GH¢120 million.
The hospital, he further said, also needed more than $100 million to complete a maternity block which was began in 1974 under one of Ghana's military leaders, General Kutu Acheampong, and had stalled for more than four decades due to the lack of funds.
Awards
Seventeen workers, some of whom have worked for more than 39 years, were awarded with various items, including double-door refrigerators.
Dr Owusu-Danso, who has been a practising specialist surgeon and consultant for about 29 years, also received an award, which he donated to a worker.
Overall Best
Dr John Adabie Appiah, the Head of Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, and Ms Jemima Dziedzom A. Tornu of the Public Health Directorate were declared the joint overall best workers and received GH¢15,000 each.
The two also were adjudged the Best Doctor, Senior Specialist/Consultant Category and the Best Nurse, Senior Category respectively.
