Ignore calls for dismissal of Western North minister — Chiefs appeal to President

The Adontenhene of the Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Area, Nana Marfo Panin, has said that the call by some individuals for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack the Regional Minister of the Western North Region, Mr Kingsley Aboagye-Gyedu, is not in the interest of the people of the new region.

He has, therefore, urged the President to maintain Mr Aboagye-Gyedu to continue his “good work".

According to Nana Marfo, some propagandists’ had been in the media calling on the President to relieve the Regional Minister of his position.

He said the plot began with a letter written on June, 11 2019 by an unidentifiable group to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, which alleged that the Regional Minister was conniving with the President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of Sefwi Wiawso, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II.  to change the agreed site for the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) offices.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the six traditional councils in the region at Bibiani, the Adontenhene said the Regional Minister had not done anything wrong to deserve dismissal.

He called for calm from the people as the traditional authorities moved to resolve any differences that could draw back the progress of the region.

Nana Marfo  also called on the people to spend their time and energies on how best they could give the government the needed support to develop the region.

Baseless allegations

Nana Marfo said it was diastaseful for people to engage in matters that could cause fear, hatred, division, and further introduce partisan politics into the chieftaincy institution in the region.

On behalf of the chiefs, he rendered an unqualified apology to  Ogyeahoho Gyebi .

He urged those behind the allegations against the Regional Minister and the Omanhene to rather preach peace and help galvanise the youth to support the development of the region.

The Adontenhene stated that the people of the region had lived in peace all this while, and that there was no way the chiefs would sit unconcerned for any naysayer to destroy the fortunes of the region.

He entreated the people in the region to be circumspect in their utterances.

Nana Marfo commended the government for the creation of the region, which, he said, would help bring development the area.

Present were some traditional leaders from the six traditional areas of Anhwiaso, Sefwi  Bekwai, Chirano, Suaman,  and Enchi.
