First Lady supports celebration of Homowo festival
The First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo, has presented assorted items to the chiefs and people of Ga Mashie towards the celebration of this year’s Homowo festival in Accra.
The items were presented to the Ga Mantse Stool House, Sempe Mantse Palace, Gbese Mantse, Abola Mantse We, Akumanjen Mantse Palace, Otublohum Mantse Palace, Asere Mantse Stool House, Nii

Mrs Akufo-Addo was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey; the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mrs Elizabeth Sackey; the Administrator of the
District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), Mrs Irene Naa Torshie Addo; the NPP parliamentary candidate for Odododoidoo, Nii Lante Bannerman; the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Mr Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Coastal Development Authority (CDA), Mr Jerry Shaib Ahmed.
United front

The First Lady commended the people of Ga Mashie for keeping the peace and presenting a united front for this important festival, adding that a united traditional front was what elicits economic investments which expedited development in any community.
She urged the people to take advantage of the many social intervention policies being implemented by the government, including the Free SHS policy, to break the vicious cycle of semi-literacy and poverty in their communities.

Mrs Akufo-Addo who is also the Executive Director of The Rebecca Foundation, pledged the foundation’s determination to compliment government’s efforts to enhance the lives of its citizens by intensifying the implementation of initiatives, including 'Terema' which supports women to improve their economic status, 'Because I want to Be', aimed at keeping girls in school and 'Learning to Read' aimed at improving child literacy, among others.
She also mentioned the foundation’s contribution to the construction of health facilities and supply of hospital equipment to needy institutions to improve the health conditions of people, especially women and children.
In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Mrs Akufo-Addo urged the elders and people of Ga Mashie to adhere to all safety protocols while celebrating this year’s Homowo by limiting the Kpokpoi sprinkling ritual to their individual homes.
