CRS supports MDAs with motobikes
Catholic Relief Services (CRS), a non-profit organisation, has donated 15 motorbikes to the West Mamprusi Municipal, Talensi and Mamprugu-Moagduri districts to support their operations.
Each district received five motorbikes to facilitate easy access to project sites and improve the monitoring of initiatives to ensure sustainability.

The donation is part of the Integrated Community Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Improvement (ICOWASH) project implemented across the Upper East and North East regions.
Funded by the Helmley Charitable Trust, the $13 million project seeks to improve, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services for over 307,000 people in remote communities, schools and healthcare facilities in the beneficiary districts.
Effective monitoring
Presenting the motorbikes, the Programmes Director of the CRS, Festus Fofie, said they would facilitate regular monitoring, supervision and technical support across the schools, health facilities and other institutions benefiting from the project.
He said it was part of efforts to ensure the sustainability of all projects initiated in the beneficiary areas as the project ends this month.
"Sustainability mechanisms are essential to maintain the progress made. We encourage our district partners to prioritise the upkeep of all provided facilities,” he said.
Mr Fofie indicated that the project had built the capacities of the local folks, promoting social behaviour change and strengthened systems to ensure sustainable service delivery.
Additionally, he said a total of 94 boreholes, 10 limited mechanised water systems, 275 institutional latrines, 38 bathrooms and 35 medical incinerators had been provided for the beneficiary communities to improve their standard of living.
Also, 197 communities have been verified and certified as open defecation-free.
Commendation
Receiving the motorbikes, the Coordinating Director of the Mamprugu-Moagduri District, Seidu Soalihu, expressed gratitude to the CRS and its donors for the gesture.
He pledged to ensure the effective utilisation of the motorbikes to serve the intended purpose, he said, "This will help bridge the service delivery gap and ensure that remote communities receive equal attention and support.”
