Court remands two in custody over stolen equipment

The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court has remanded two men in prison custody for allegedly stealing some equipment at the Oda Water Works. The stolen items are 45 batteries and chargers and six solar panels, all valued at GH¢23,460.

The suspects, who were arrested by the Oda Police are Sampson Amponsah, 31, and Matthew Bayor, 27. They are to reappear before the court presided over by Mr Alexander Oworae on January 23, 2019.

Briefing

Briefing the Daily Graphic at Oda, the Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr F.S. Adikah, said the station officer at the head office of the water project at Oda detected the theft of the items on December 23, 2018 and lodged a complaint with the police.

He said police investigations led to the arrest of Amponsah and Bayor and when their premises were searched, two solar panels and 12 batteries were found and retrieved from them.

Mr Adikah said when they were interrogated, the two men claimed that one Kwabena Atta, who was on the run, sold the items to them.

Third suspect

He said Amponsah and Bayor led the police to the residence of Atta but he was not around and when the house was searched, the police found two batteries and two solar panels which they retrieved.

The Divisional Police Commander said the two suspects were put before the court on January 10, 2019 and the presiding judge remanded them in police custody.

Meanwhile, the police have mounted a search for Atta.
