AMA presents items, money to PWDs in Accra
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Monday presented working materials and cash to 130 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the metropolis.
The items, which were meant to resource the PWDs and take them off the streets, included 55 chest freezers, 20 refrigerators, 20 sewing machines and 20 popcorn-making machines.
Besides, each of the beneficiaries received GH₵200 as start-up to support them in their respective businesses.
Twelve of them received an additional GH₵2,000 each to start mobile credit vending businesses, while five others received GH₵1,700 each for the payment of their school fees.
The Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Mohammed Adjei Sowah, said the presentation was part of the share of the District Assemblies Common Fund for PWDs.
The event was also used to observe International Day on PWDs in the metropolis.
He said the assembly had set up a team to monitor the activities of the beneficiaries to ensure that the items and the money were put to judicious use.
“The team will also make sure that the beneficiaries do not sell the items and move back onto the streets,” he said.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the AMA for the support and pledged to put the items and the money to good use.
One of them, Mr John Ahiamedzekpor, in an interview, urged the public to patronise their wares and services to enable them to succeed in their respective businesses.
