Ghana needs every citizen — Aidoo

Mr Mahmud Khalid (right), former Regional Minister for the Upper West, presenting a prize to a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association. The Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, has observed that Ghana needs  every citizen and community to promote peace and reconciliation for development to spread to every community.

He said the government was committed to fighting against crime and illiteracy, which were rife at the district, regional and national levels.

Mr Aidoo said the central government could not accomplish the tasks without partnership and support from all religious organisations as it made the efforts  to make the country a destination for regional trade, investment and commerce in the sub-region.

The regional minister, who opened the 30th annual national rally of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association held at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region, spoke on the theme: “The Holy Prophet Muhammad— An epitome of Peace, and  Reconciliation.”

Mr Aidoo urged Ahmadi elders to chart a course that was worthy of their status as pioneers and torch bearers of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in the regions and districts of the country.

The Omanhene of Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Nana Akumfi Ameyaw, commended Muslims in the region for their unity.

He explained that even though there were many Muslim sects in his area, they had all remained united and were working for the development of the area.

He said the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission had assisted in bettering the conditions of the people of the country, especially in the fields of education and health.

The National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association, Alhaji Noor-Deen Saeed, urged the members to show commitment to the activities of the mission in order to serve as role models for them to emulate.

Alhaji Saeed also advised them not to take the peace in the country for granted but to pray fervently for peace to reign always, for without peace the progress of the mission and other organisations in the  country could be hampered.
