Ghacem pays GH¢2.5m dividend to government

Ghacem Limited has presented a cheque for GH¢2.5 million to the government, representing a final dividend payment on its 2015 accounts.

This brings the total amount of dividend  paid on the company’s 2015 account to GH¢4.7 million. Ghacem had erlier presented GH¢2.2 million as interim dividend to the government.

 

Dividend

The dividend which was declared at the company’s 47th Annual General Meeting represents the government’s 400,000 shares held in the company.

The Strategy and Corporate Affairs Director of Ghacem, Rev. Dr George Dawson-Ahmoah, noted that the payment of dividend due to the government was an important event on the company’s calendar and added that as a true corporate citizen of the land, “it gives the company joy to honour its financial obligations of which dividend payment is no exception.” 

“We believe the consistent honouring of all financial obligations propel national development as such we count on government’s continuous support to the local cement industry to boost production to generate more income to drive the economy.”

Importation of cement

Dr Dawson-Ahmoah noted the recent statement by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, regarding the government’s attempt to place a ceiling on the annual importation of cement into the country to sanitise the sector.

“As a major stakeholder in the local cement industry, we appeal to Government to expedite action on the issue and bring it to finality to ensure sanity in the industry,” he said.
