Gang leader in Bogoso robbery killed in shootout
The alleged leader of a robbery gang that attacked a gold buying company at Bogoso in the Western Region and made away with GH¢900,000, Nathaniel Udoma Ebu, has died in an exchange of fire with the police.
A release issued by the Police Service said Ebu died during an exchange of fire with the police at Shiashi, East Legon, in Accra last Thursday.
The release, signed by the Director-General of the Police Public Affairs Unit, ACP David Eklu, said the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) had arrested Kojo Amponsah, 46, another suspected member of the gang at Maajor, near Sowutuom.
On April 29, 2018, the gang of robbers attacked Plate and Plummes, a gold buying company, and stole over GH¢900,000 and a kilogramme of gold.
The robbers also shot dead a police officer on duty before bolting with their booty.
Following the robbery and murder, the PID said it coordinated pieces of information in Accra, Kumasi and the Western Region that led to the arrest of nine suspects.
Two of the suspects died in an exchange of fire with the police, while seven are currently on remand.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway for the arrest of four other suspects who are currently on the run, according to the police. They are Kweku Minta, Ali Musah (also known as Advert), Osman Mohammed (who is also called Isaac) and Kweku Asante.
In another development, the release said the PID foiled an attempted armed robbery attack at the Shai Hills Quarries on May 19, 2018.
Two of the robbery suspects, Solomon T. Tetteh (alias Iceblock), 26, and Micheal Obu ,alias Gonja, believed to have been involved in a recent highway robbery between Kodiabe and Doryumu are in police custody assisting in investigations.
The police administration commended members of the public whose vital information led to the arrests and urged the public to continue to give out information to the police in the fight against crime.
