Friends of Nasser Mahama Toure clean Nima

A group, known as Friends of Nasser Mahama Toure (FNMT) and affiliated to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday embarked on a clean-up exercise at Nima, a suburb of the Greater Accra Region as part of measures to help address the poor sanitary condition in the region.

Beginning from the Nima roundabout, participants swept and collected rubbish from gutters, starting from Nima and ended at ‘gutter,’ a boundary between Nima and Mamobi in the Ayawaso West constituency. The exercise, which lasted about five hours, would be done on monthly basis.

Clad in NDC attire with inscriptions such as “tried and tested, “the obvious choice, “No Nasser, no vote,” the coordinator of the group, Mr Mohammed Aminu, said it was formed to propagate the work of the Member of Parliament (MP) of Ayawaso East, Mr Nasser Mahama Toure.

Poor Sanitary

Moreover, he said, the exercise was organised to address the poor sanitary conditions in the constituency,” and to support President Akufo-Addo's quest to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.”

On behalf of the group, Mr Aminu expressed his appreciation to the MP, Mr Toure, for addressing some basic needs within the constituency, especially giving of scholarships to the needy but brilliant students and also supporting artisans with start-up capital in their business.

GH¢200 million

It would be recalled that President Nana Akufo-Addo, delivering his second State of the Nation Address stressed on the need to clear the country of filth.

In tandem to that, he announced his government’s commitment to inject an amount of GH¢200 million to address the issue of sanitation, expressing his disappointment at how the cities had been engulfed by filth.

The President, further, urged public authorities to finance and made the cities clean, particularly in the case of Accra, “fulfilling my pledge, one of the most ambitious of my presidency, to make Accra the cleanest city of Africa by the end of my term”.
