Four killed in Kintampo-Tamale Highway accident

At least four Persons have been confirmed dead in a fatal accident which occurred on Monday at about 1:30 pm on the Kintampo-Tamale Highway between Portor and Kadelso in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Other 14 passengers who sustained serious injuries were rushed to Kintampo Government Municipal Hospital and Buipe Hospital for treatment.

The two vehicles which were involved in the head-on collision that resulted in the fatality are a KIA Rhino truck with registration number AS 1635-14, which was loaded with boxes of tomatoes and travelling from Tamale to Kumasi, and a Kumasi-Tamale bound KIA Grandbird bus with registration number GT 5924-17.

A combined team of Ghana National Fire Service personnel from the Kintampo Municipal and the Buipe District had a tough time rescuing the victims who got trapped in the two mangled vehicles.

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Police Service (GPS), Chief Inspector Augustine Kinsley Oppong who confirmed the incident said the Kia Rhino was trying to avoid running into a faulty stationary DAF articulator truck from Niger with registration number AR 9991.

He said in the process the Kia Rhino ran head-on into the oncoming KIA Grandbird bus resulting in the death of the four people and 14 injured.
