First Lady enstooled queenmother

The First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, has been enstooled a queenmother of the Nkoranza Traditional Area in the Brong Ahafo Region in recognition of her contributions towards development of the area and the nation as a whole.

With her stool name Nana Akosua Fremaa Ampomah Sika, the First Lady was honoured with the crown of ‘Sompahemaa’ which means "queen of good service."

Her enstoolment was in recognition of her charity works around the country and her contributions towards development of the Nkoranza Traditional Area where she hails from. 

Colourful event 

The ceremony was followed by a colourful durbar which was graced by Ministers of State, Municipal, Metropolitan and District Chief Executives, heads of government institutions, chiefs and queenmothers from the Brong Ahafo and Northern regions, celebrities and other dignitaries.

Present at the durbar included the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Ms Sherry Ayittey, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Eric Opoku, and a member of the Council of State, Madam Cecilla Johnson.

The Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom IV, who enstooled the First Lady, indicated that Mrs Mahama had over the years exhibited true spirit of a mother of the nation and daughter of the Nkoranza community.

He said through her charity works, Mrs Mahama had touched many lives in Ghana and beyond, including the adoption of seven orphanages and the distribution of medical supplies and equipment to health facilities and hospitals in the country.

Developmental projects 

A citation presented to the First Lady commended her for her dedication and her support for the execution of development projects which were evident in the establishment of an ICT centre at Nkoranza and ultramodern school complex at Bodom in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom added that the First Lady also facilitated the execution of development projects such as the establishment of the Nkoranza Municipal Hospital, tarring of some roads in the area, provision of a fire station at Nkoranza and a clinic at Ampoma, all in the Brong Ahafo Region.

In his address, the Omanhene of Techiman, Nana Ameyaw Ekumfi IV, said the First Lady had shown great commitment and love towards the community she hails from.

He said individuals who contributed immensely to their community should be appreciated while they are alive rather than recognising their works after their death.

While urging her to continue with the good and hard work, Nana Ekumfi asked for God’s blessings and guidance for her as she takes up the new challenge.

In her acceptance speech, Mrs Mahama expressed her gratitude to the chiefs, queenmothers and the people of Nkoranza for honouring and recognising her work.

She pledged to work harder to contribute to the improvement of the lives of the people of the area and Ghana at large.

While lauding the trust reposed in her, the First Lady promised to do her best to justify the confidence reposed in her by the chiefs and people of Nkoranza.

Mahama hails from Bodom in Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region.
