In her address, the Vice dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Studies of the Koforidua Technical University, Dr Mrs Regina Bekoe Biney, urged women to be firm with their decisions and be bold  and courageous to take decisions that would enable them to break new grounds.

“You should not be afraid of doing new things, you should do away with the ‘that is the way we do it’ syndrome,” she said.

Dr Biney was delivering the keynote address at the women’s rally at Kpeve Newtown last weekend.

She advised members of the fellowship to be innovative, resilient and be focused and plan ahead for success, adding that they should avoid gossiping or engaging in non-productive activities.

Breaking new grounds

Dr Biney said in order for them to break new grounds, they should be creative and come out with new ideas in doing things and also to look out for greater opportunities, be courageous to uphold Christian values and to live as disciplined citizens.

She said they should derive inspiration from many women who had broken new grounds in male-dominated fields notwithstanding challenges they had faced in pursuit of those achievements.

In an address, the National Women Programme Officer of the EP Church, Rev. Mrs Nyuieme Adiepena, said women should lead the crusade in denouncing armed robbery, mob violence, prostitution, human trafficking and other social vices that used to be commonly associated with men, and also stop moving from one church to another looking for salvation.

She said women should be better disciples on the field to overturn unfavourable cultural practices that created a negative impact on the fight for women empowerment. In that vein, she called for the expansion of women’s fellowships in churches to reach out to the unreached.

New paradigm shift

Rev. Adiepena said although churches focused mainly on spiritual development, the women’s ministry must look for a new paradigm shift in the face of a more complex, challenging and dynamic society, stressing that, “This year’s women celebration will be looking at how to expand the scope of the women’s ministry.”
