The Vice-President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, has stated that the pragmatic and meaningful economic policies and programmes rolled out by the government are geared towards improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
He said various initiatives by the government were in fulfilment of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s promises to the people during the electioneering in 2016.
Dr Bawumia was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Asante-Mampong at the Amaniampong Silver Stool Palace in the Ashanti Region last Monday.
The meeting formed part of the Vice-President’s tour of all regions in the country to join Muslims to offer prayers in their month-long fasting (Ramadan) obligation.
Dr Bawumia mentioned the free senior high school (SHS) programme, allowances for nurses and teacher trainees and the reduction in electricity bills as some of the measures that had come to stay.
He also said the introduction of other interventions such as Agriculture Commerce and Technology (DCACT) policy aimed at feeding industries with raw materials to increase export and Planting for Food and Jobs programme targeted at ensuring food security and job creation in the country were to help accelerate the country’s development.
The Vice-President, therefore, called on the people to rally behind the government in its efforts to take the country out of doldrums.
Dr Bawumia further assured the people of Mampong that the Mampong-Kofiase and Kyiremfaso-Krobo roads, which had become unmotorable, would be rehabilitated soon.
He expressed his appreciation to the Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, for the warm welcome accorded him and his entourage.
The Mamponghene in turn commended the Vice-President for making his expertise in economy available for the betterment of Ghanaians.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu advised chiefs not to engage in politics but support the government of the day to carry out its development agenda for the country.
To unearth youth talents and potential in the area, he said he had released 23 acres for the establishment of a sports complex and appealed to the Vice-President to help execute the project.
The Vice-President was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei-Mensah; the Minister for Zongo and Inner-City Development, Alhaji Boniface Saddique and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Offinso South, Alhaji Abdallah Banda.
