Damango: Nurse arrested for raping Italian tourist granted bail
The 28-year-old male nurse of the Damongo Government Hospital who has been accused of raping a 24-year-old Italian lady has been granted bail by the Tamale High Court.
The High Court Two presided over by Mr. Justice Osei Kwame Gyamfi on Tuesday granted the accused person bail in the sum of GH₵10,000 with one surety to be justified.

The Tamale District Court One on April 9, 2018 remanded the accused person, Ernest Green into police custody. The court declined to grant the accused bail because it does not have the jurisdiction to grant bail in rape cases.
However, lawyers of the accused person filed an application for bail at the Tamale High Court which was granted Tuesday.
The High Court after granting the bail application referred the case back to the Tamale District Court for the case to continue until a bill of indictment is prepared by the magistrate court for the accused to stand trial at the High Court.
This is because the District Court has no jurisdiction to hear first degree felony cases like rape.
Mr. Ernest Green, was put before the Tamale District Court One on a charge of raping the 24-year-old Italian lady who was on admission at the health facility.
A brief fact of the case is that the suspect Ernest Green is a nurse at the Damongo Government Hospital in the capital of the West Gonja District in the Northern Region while the complainant in the case is a 24 year old Italian lady who was on a tourist expedition in the district.
According to the police the victim filed a complaint at the Damongo Police Station that she has been allegedly raped by the suspect while on admission at one of the private wards at the health facility.
The incident according to the police happened on Friday, April 6, 2018 at about 4.00 am.
The complainant told the Police said she was rushed to the hospital at about 11:50 pm the previous day when attacked by malaria.
She said the suspect approached her and told her the hospital has a private ward and if she would like to take it and she agreed, adding that she got up at dawn and managed to make it to the washroom and on her return, she found it difficult to climb back on to the bed and the suspect came in around that time to assist her onto the bed.
The complainant said the suspect sat by her side and started touching her but she was too weak to resist and that suddenly the suspect took her breast into his mouth, pulled her panties and had unprotected sex with her.
