Suspect in Tema factory shooting incident granted bail

A man accused of shooting five Ghanaian workers at a Chinese plastic recycling company, LHP, in the Tema heavy Industrial area, Mr Liu Xue Jian, 47, has been granted bail by the Tema Regional Police Command pending further investigations.

The suspect, who was wielding a pump action gun on Monday, December 30, 2019 while guarding a gate during ‘pay-day’, allegedly discharged bullets from the rifle which hit the ground and spread out on impact. In the process, five of the workers were hit, some in the ribs, thighs and legs.

The workers had queued up for their salaries, however, the suspect who was apparently seated close to the main gate, where the workers had lined up and allegedly fidgeting with the rifle on his lap, pressed the trigger.

The injured workers were rushed to the Narh-Bita Hospital in Community 4 for medical attention.

The injured were Fiabor Yomi, 24, Benjamin Nyimfa, 23, Samuel Osei, 24, Brain Ofori, 24, and Kofi Julian Koomson, 25.
