Boy,16, dies fighting over his dead dog

What started as verbal exchanges between two teenagers turned tragic when one of them, Kweku Abeiku, lost his life in the brawl.

Prince Takyi, a first year student of the Cape Coast Technical Institute (Cape Tech), who was suspected of killing Abeiku’s dog, stabbed him during the confrontation at Breman Bedum in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District in the Central Region.

According to information gathered by The Mirror, Abeiku, aged 16, had a hint that Takyi had killed one of his hunting dogs for no reason.

Not satisfied with the information, Abeiku, after returning from farm on that day, confronted Takyi over the incident, which resulted in a brawl.

According to the source, both Takyi and Abeiku fell into a nearby gutter during the brawl and Takyi was said to have removed a knife from his pocket and stabbed Abeiku in the left rib.

Abeiku, the source said, died as a result of profuse bleeding while being conveyed to the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Hospital at Breman Asikuma.

The police could not initially determine the age of Takyi and treated the case as a juvenile one and had him remanded at the Social Welfare Remand Home for Juveniles.

According to the source,Takyi, who was said to have voted in the last election, will appear before the Breman Asikuma District Magistrate’s Court and if his right age is determined, he would be put before a high court.

The source said the case had been referred to the Attorney-General’s Department for advice. The body has since been buried after autopsy.
