The 13th Ghana International Book Fair ended in Accra last Saturday with most of the exhibitors complaining about low sales.

But the president of the Ghana Book Publishers Association, organisers of the fair, Mr Samuel Osafo Acquaah, stated that the event was not only meant for exhibitors to sell their wares, but also for them to launch their products.
“The primary aim was to allow publishers, writers and manufacturers to showcase quality new materials so that individuals, schools and corporate organisations would see them, make orders and purchase later,” he said.
This year’s event was held at the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre from November 3 - 7, 2015 on the theme: “Professional Book Publishing and E-Services: Resources for national development.”
Exhibitions
The fair attracted more than 70 local and foreign exhibitors, made up of publishers, book retailers, and e-book developers. People who thronged the event read new books released by some of the notable publishing companies in the country.
They also got the opportunity to try their hands on some e–book devices and soft wares on display. Children in particular were treated to a wide array of activities such as reading clinics, interaction with authors and spelling competitions.
Change of venue
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr Acquaah revealed that as part of efforts to improve the fair, next year’s event would be held at the Accra International Conference Centre.
