Ghana and Korea celebrate KOICA Alumni Night in Accra
Ghana and Korea have celebrated this year’s Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Ghana Alumni Night in Accra.

The celebration, which is aimed at deepening the bond of friendship between the two countries brought together Ghanaians, including government officials who have studied in different institutions in Korea.
Speaking at the function, the Country Director (KOICA), Mr. Yukyum Kim said the bilateral relations between Korea and Ghana had grown stronger over the last 40 years.

He added that since the establishment of the KOICA in 1991, the Government of Korea through the Agency had supported over 750 Government Officials with capacity building in different fields.
He named fields such as Fishery Science, International Trade and Policy, Agriculture, Rural Development, Energy and Economics as areas that had been supported by the Agency.

Mr. Kim he further stated that 166 Ghanaian Officials had also benefitted from KOICA Masters Scholarship, adding “This year alone, 25 officials received Masters Scholarship to study various fields in top Korean Universities".

He said besides the invitational training programs, KOICA Ghana Office is supporting various projects in the fields of Health, Education, Agriculture and Energy as well as the dispatch of volunteers and experts to Ghanaian public organizations.
For her part, a Deputy Head of Mission at the Korea Embassy in Ghana, H.E Lisa Han, advised the beneficiaries to use the knowledge acquired during their training in Korea to transform the fortunes of Ghana.

Touching on some of the activities carried out over the years by the Ghana Alumni Association, the Secretary to the group, Mr Dominic Annang mentioned donation of polytanks and educational materials to some selected schools across the country, planting of tress along the Weija River, and painting of some children homes in the capital among others as ways of giving back to the society.
