Be wary of fake recruitment agencies

The President of SEWA Foundation, Mr Jones Owusu Yeboah, has advised Ghanaians to be wary of fake recruitment agencies that deceive people with promises of recruiting them to Kuwait for greener pastures.

He said some of the agencies approached unsuspecting clients, especially young women, with mouth-watering promises such as well-paid jobs in that country but disappointed them.

Difficult situations

In an interview with the Daily Graphic in Koforidua, he said SEWA Foundation, a non-governmental organisation working to promote the welfare of children and adolescents had, through the collaborative efforts of Aywad Immigrant Employment Centre of Kuwait, provided shelter for some Ghanaians who had found themselves in difficult situations in that country.

Mr Yeboah was, however, not happy about some of the stories narrated by some Ghanaians who had found themselves in the hands of fake recruitment agencies and added that some of their stories were beyond comprehension.

"For instance, how can you phone into a radio programme from Kuwait and allege that you are made to clean and wash pig sty when in actual fact, everyone knows that muslims and, for that matter Arabs, abhor pigs or pork," he added.

Greener pastures

He was of the belief that some people who travelled to those countries to seek greener pastures tended to have high expectations but got frustrated when those expectations were not met.

Mr Yeboah said the Ghana Government had established a committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to look into complaints by Ghanaians working in those countries and, therefore, urged anyone with any problem to contact the ministry rather than using the media to air his/her grievances.
