She noted that Ghanaians had the penchant for sticking to the same way of doing things and stressed the need to do away with that mentality, to rid the country of its high number of unemployed youth.

Dr Aryee was addressing a gathering of youth, unemployed graduates and entrepreneurs at a programme held in Accra yesterday.

“We need a mind that is organic,” she said, adding that the attitude of the youth was one of the reasons why the unemployment rate in the country kept growing.

The programme dubbed, “Blazing Trails Career Clinic”, was a British Council and Barclays Bank initiative that aimed at preparing young graduates and  entrepreneurs for the job market, leadership, entrepreneurial and management skills.

It was attended by over 250 beneficiaries who were taken through sessions that included the preparation of curriculum vitae (CV), what employers expect from a CV, mentorship and how to secure a job online.

Dr Aryee noted that while skills and grooming were critical, they were often overlooked but this was affecting job seekers.

Mr Mike Nyinaku, Chief Executive Officer of Beige Group, said people often confused education with schooling.

According to him, a very good educational background would not be beneficial to an individual if that person had a bad attitude.

Other speakers at the event included Constance Swaniker, CEO of Accent and Arts Limited, and Tonyi Senayah, CEO, Horseman Shoes.
